Vision: See and Do What Must Be Done

October 18, 2020, John Morlan, He Brightened Our Eyes, Rolling Hills, Danville

From Series: "He Brightened Our Eyes"

What happens when a person, a family, or even a whole people loses hope that anything great will ever become of them? Worse, even: they’re more than just a mere shadow of their former selves. They are in destitution, humiliation, and buried inside another culture more dominant than their own. They’re nowhere near thriving. Rather, they’re barely surviving--forced to prove themselves among new neighbors, new powers, new laws, new assumptions, new religions, and new dangers. How likely are they to find the Glory and Joy promised to them by God and the heritage their forefathers laid down and lived? How do they rise up and rebuild? How do they reset their course and reset the mission their children and their children’s children will reclaim and experience? How can they change the world for good . . . from a place of despair? Well, this isn’t just the story we’ll find was true in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah--and the opening setting of our series, “He Brightened Our Eyes.” It is also the day we as Christ-followers find ourselves in--in a post-Christian, demoralized, culturally- and religiously-fractured world. So, what should we do when this is what we face? And how do we do it when the headwinds of society defy us and just dare us to try to do anything? Ezra and Nehemiah will share a plan. So, join Rolling Hills this Fall as we dive into these two classic Old Testament books on Sundays and then plunge even deeper into their stories with daily devotional readings and group experiences by utilizing our series group guide called “Walls.” "We have been given a brief moment of grace, for the Lord our God has allowed a few of us to survive as a remnant. He has given us security in this holy place. Our God has brightened our eyes . . . He revived us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruins. He has given us a protective wall in Judah and Jerusalem." --Ezra 9:8-9 NLT
